Always check the weather before heading to the training location and be prepared for a potentially long day in the field. Dogs MUST be leashed or crated at all times, unless working in the fields. Training day will begin at 0800.

no later than Thursday by 12:00 pm. Please be prepared to pay via Venmo (@Chris-Hairie), cash or a check. If you order birds and will not be able to attend training day, unfortunately, you are required to pay for your ordered birds.

Some items you should bring to a training day: Water for your dog Blaze orange hat and shirt or vest Game bag to carry birds. Basic training items such as check cord, e-collar, whistle, etc. Your dog’s kennel crate Insect repellent, sunscreen, Folding chair, snacks, drinks, lunch, Bird $ ***Cash or Check made out to Buckeyes Plantation
***Training Etiquette
1. Be sure you dog is current on all vaccinations.
2. Keep dogs in a crate or on a tie-out until it is your turn to run.
3. Be prepared to run when it is your turn.
4. Help others. Everyone can help regardless of their experience level. If you haven't done something before ask and we will be glad to teach you
5. Use the grounds with respect: Pick up after yourself and your dog. This includes picking up poop around the barn, picking up empty shotgun shells, and properly disposing of expired training birds.

Normal Training Day Schedule
***Priority at each station will be given to those who will NAVHDA test within the next three months. Have your dog ready at each station to follow the prior dog.
Depending on the number of handlers, there will be 2 or 3 fields set aside. Handler/Dog teams of like skill level will train together so that everyone can benefit. Please make sure that you have a kennel or a tether for your dog when it is not in the field. We should be finished with the training by 2 p.m.
Be prepared for the weather and bring along a blaze orange hat or vest, a folding chair, sunscreen, water for the dogs, lunch and drinks.

Normal Training Day Schedule
- 8:00 - Meet at Pole Barn buy and distribute birds
- 8:30 Training or hunting topic
- 8:45 - Break into NA, UT groups and proceed to fields
- 9:00 to early afternoon - coordinated training in groups
- Cleanup and equipment return

- Keep an eye on the activity in your group
- Go to the least crowded station for your dog's skill level
- UT - Do your duck search early in the day
- It's a long walk to the fields. Safely pre-position yourself to plant birds if the team in front of you is about done
- Do not allow your dog to run free unless it is your turn at an activity
- Have yourself and your dog suited up and ready to go when it is your turn
- Find a partner and help each other complete training goals
- If you want a more experienced handler to watch your dog, ask early
